Duke of Edinburgh and the Sea School

Looking for options for the ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY or RESIDENTIAL PROJECT section of your DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD?

COME ON AN ADVENTURE WITH THE NOVA SCOTIA SEA SCHOOL!

The Nova Scotia Sea School offers 5 and 7-day overnight sailing expeditions for ages 14-18. No sailing experience is necessary - we'll teach you what you need to know. If you do have a background in sailing, we'll build on those basics with a great experience of small boat coastal sailing where you'll learn chart and compass navigation, anchoring, how to read the weather, how to cook on board and everything else you need to know about the adventure side of sailing!

On these expeditions there are up to 13 people on board in total. This includes 2 fully qualified and trained Sea School instructors and 1 instructor in training, who we call the Leading Crew. So, on a 30ft boat, it's cozy! The adventure of living on a boat in close quarters provides an excellent opportunity to build on your leadership and teamwork skills. The youth crew works together to do everything that needs to be done on board - sailing, rowing, navigating, cooking, making decisions and taking command, and being responsible for the safety of the boat and the crew. Each trip is different, each crew is different - it's your adventure - you decide how you want to live it.
