Dorothea, our first original sailboat built in 1994 by 15 teenagers is being reconstructed in the courtyard at the Maritime Museum. This event will be an opportunity to thank YOU for supporting young people to take command of their lives through seafaring, for alumni to re-connect with friends from trips and to share our plans for growing our sailing program when Dorothea re-launches.
The evening will include tours of Dorothea with youth alumni, guest youth participant speakers, a slide show, snacks and beverages in the tradition of Sea School expeditions, and activities for children.

The Nova Scotia Sea School is looking to fill the last few spots on our boat, Elizabeth Hall, this summer…
Do you know a 14-18 year old who would be interested in an amazing Sea School expedition? Please send them our way! We're looking to fill the 7 day trip in August (August 12-18) specifically. We have bursaries available and (interesting fact…) our trips count towards the Adventurous Journey portion of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Again, there are only 5 spaces left, so you need to hurry.
I have just returned from the Parade of Sail in Halifax aboard the Barque Picton Castle Tall Ship! We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to send 7 of our alumni youth and 4 instructors on a two week journey with the crew of the Picton Castle. They are headed to Port Hawksbury and then Pugwash before heading back to Lunenburg for August 5th.
Looking for a fun way to spend a summer day out on the water? Come out to The
Nova Scotia Sea School's Free Day Sail and Summer Open House June 23 and 24 in
Lunenburg!
The Sea School is offering FREE sails on its traditional 28 foot wooden sailboat this weekend.
This open house is a great way for youth and parents to see what the Sea School’s 5 & 7 day
sailing expeditions are all about; an opportunity to get a glimpse of life on the boat. The day sail
is open to all ages, no sailing experience necessary.

Things are cooking at the Nova Scotia Sea School! We finished two amazing March Break programs- One was Take it Outside!, a 5 day, 4 night wilderness survival camp in the woods of Aylesford Lake (special thanks to Brigadoon Village for letting us use their land!) that gave us pretty much all the weather Nova Scotia has to offer. They worked with many different kinds of hand tools to build some tables and the frame for a woodshed at Brigadoon Village.
THE CAUSE:
'Dorothea' our first expedition boat founded a whole new kind of learning in Nova Scotia. She is in dire need of repair and new outfitting to make her expedition-worthy. Our goal is to raise $24,700 by summer 2013 so that we can offer youth a unique experience on an original sailboat built by teenagers.
THE IMPACT:
17 years 754 program days 15,000 sea hours 106 expeditions 1200 participants
THE DESIGN:
Our very own vessel Dorothea will be painted by 3 WORLD renowned aerosol artists - this Thursday September 8th - Sunday September 11th.
This event kicks off our popular SEA CHANGE program that offers FREE art and music recording sessions for young people under 35 - see program info and description here.
Location of event:
Bedford Row - Downtown Halifax - Thursday September 8th
(beside the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia)
The Sea Change program wrapped up Thursday night, with a hugely successful art and music showcase at 1313 Hollis Street. Sea Change at The Spot is a free art & music program for aspiring artists under 35 and is a partnership between the Nova Scotia Sea School and Connections Halifax, with funding from Gambling Awareness Nova Scotia and the Halifax Community Health Board. The program took place weekly from April through June, and the showcase featured original songs, art and poetry from program participants. The next module of Sea Change will be offered in the fall.
Due to weather and high wind conditions, we will be postponing the Free Day Sail from today to tomorrow, Sunday June 26.
Hope to see you all tomorrow, for a 10am morning or 1pm afternoon sail!
